Porgy and Bess

This piece of art I got from Netherlands. It's from Samuel Goldwyn's movie called Porgy and Bess. The movie has made at 1959 and it's genre are musical, drama and romance. I have never seen the movie but imdb gives it scores 7,3/10 !

Tämän taideteoksen sain Hollannista. Kortti on Samuel Goldwynin leffasta Porgy and Bess. Elokuva on vuodelta 1959 ja genrenä draama, musikaali ja romantiikka. En ole itse koskaan nähny kyseistä elokuvaa, mutta imdb:n mukaan olisi hyvä (7.3/10) !

Bird, bird, bird, b-bird's the word

It's Spring and bird migration is currently in progress. Birding is one of my hobbies and it's really rewarding entertainment! I recommend it to everybody :)

Se olis kevät taas ja lintujen muuttokin käynnissä paraikaan. Lintujen bongailu on yksi harrastuksistani ja täytyy kyllä myöntää, että se on ihan äärimmäisen antoisa ajanviete! Kaikille voin suositella lämpimästi :)

Everybody knows this bird, it's White Stork (Ciconia Ciconia). It's the bird which brings babies :) I received the postcard from Elsje from the Netherlands. Here in Finland had been seen some of White Storks, in Helsinki and Siuntio. Thank you Elsje!

Kaikkihan tietävät tämän linnun, kattohaikara! Siis se lintu, joka tuo vauvoja :) Korttihan tuli Hollannista asti Elsjeltä, kiitoksia vaan tästä! Suomessakin on muutamia jo bongailtu mm. Helsingissä ja Siuntiossa.

Today is Good Friday (finnish: Pitkäperjantai). It's also known as Black Friday, Eastern Friday and Holy Friday. The finnish name of the day means Long Friday.

New Stamps

The Post has released some new stamps and I bought theseones today:

"The official stamp of the ice hockey world championship 2012 tournament to be organized in Helsinki will portray the widely noted mascot HockeyBird. The stamp is designed by Lead Artist Toni Kysenius of Rovio Entertainment, who has now fulfilled his long-time dream of designing a stamp.
"HockeyBird's job is to bring high-voltage bird energy to the great sporting event and to barge into anything and everything, so it is only natural that he will also take over the stamp," Toni Kysenius says.
Finland and Sweden share the hosting of the ice hockey world championship tournament in 2012 and 2013. Kysenius has taken note of this on his design."  (www.posti.fi)

Owls

Today I got this postcard from Belarus. The animal is Aegolius funereus also known as Boreal Owl. In finnish name is helmipöllö. The other for the owl are Richardson's Owl, Funeral Owl, Sparrow Owl and Pearl Owl. Helmi means pearl and pöllö is owl. Boreal owl is the most common owl in Finland. It's quite small, only 20–30 centimetres.

Tänään tupsahti kortti Valko-Venäjältä. Kortissa komeilee kaikille tuttu helmipöllö. Myös muita nimiä löytyy, onhan se Suomen yleisin pöllökin. Melkoisen pieni otus on kyseessä, pituutta vain 20-30 cm.

What is this next owl? It doesn't really look like Bubo bubo aka The Eurasian Eagle-Owl. Or is it? I though that maybe it's young one...

Mikäs tämä pöllö on? Huuhkaja? Hmm..Kertokkee jos tietoa löytyy!

I got this great ad-card from my own country, Finland. It's an ad for Coca-Cola, bottles are designed by Karl Lagerfeld. The sender says that she has bought the card from Denmark. Never been there, but maybe some day... really cool bottles though!

Tämän tyylikkään kortin sain Suomesta! Cokiksen mainos kyseessä, suunnitellut Karl Lagerfeld. Kortin lähettäjä kertoo kortin olevan peräisin Tanskanmaalta. Enpä ole koskaan Tanskassakaan käynyt, mutta ehkä joku päivä.. Hieno on kortti kuiteski!

This next postcard are from Germany and it has sent 26 Dec 2011. It's an ad for paint, I think? I put the text from the cover to the translate and it says: use the night... I like the colours and the idea of the card.

Panda Life***

New year has come and I've been at work all the time so the blog has been in quiet life.. But I still love postcards! Here in Finland are now about -23 degrees so it's quite freezy in outside. But in Kuusamo has been -40 degrees!! Kuusamo located in the Oulu province and is part of the Northern Ostrobothnia region.

This postcard I got from Japan. Tomoe has sent the card at 20th January. She lives in Nara, the city of old shrines and temples. Tomoe told that in the city are lot of deers too. I wrote on the Google "Nara Japan" and almost in every picture of the city shows deers! :)

Gorlice is a city in south eastern Poland. I received this postcard in September 2011.

Fruit seller - Mumbai

Fruit seller from Mumbai, India. Photo by V B Anand. I love this card because of  the colours and there's "real people" around. I mean, no models and posing. At the stamps you can see Homi Jahangir Bhabha. He was an Indian nuclear physicist and the chief architect of the Indian atomic energy program. And on the other stamp shows two smooth indian otters.

Camels from Dubai

 

I have to post this at same day because this card is so cool! I got this from Mimi from United Arab Emirates. These are camels that have been painted and desingned by different people & schools. My favourites are bee camel and the mirror camel! :) 

Oli pakko postaa nyt samana päivänä vielä tämä kortti, koska tää on vaan niin hieno! Sain kortin Mimiltä, joka asuu Arabiemiriikunnissa. Nämä kamelit on maalannut ja suunnitellut eri ihmiset eri kouluista. Oma suosikkini on peilin palasista tehty kameli ja ampparikameli! :)

Who am I why am I here

This postcard I got in 2009. The name of painting is "Tree in two emotions and two sentiments" and it made by Keng who is 14 year old girl. The painting is part of project or organisation called weunderstand which is supported by UNICEF. And its exhibition of paintings, music and drama performance, presented by 26 Thai children who live with HIV. Stories told through their perspectives and reflections of lives which are ready to bloom.

Greenpeace

Jessica from the Netherlands has sent this Greenpeace postcard at August 2011. On the postcard you can see a starfish and some soft corals that Dutch have there at the sea :) 
On the stamps reads: Denk groen doe groen. I put the sentence on the google and it's something like "think green, do green"?? I think that those stamps really reflects our culture just now, in nowadays. Because everybody talks about green values and it's great.

Scenic Utah

The salt lakes, the mormons, 2002 Winter Olympics, wheres Finland got 7 medals. Those are the things which come to mind at first when I think about Utah. In the stamps are Marge and Bart Simpsons whose everyone knows! :)

Suolajärvet, mormonit,  talviolympialaiset vuonna 2002, joista Suomikin sai mukaansa 7 mitalia. Nuo asiat tulevat ensimmäisenä mieleen, kun ajattelen Utahia. Postimerkeissä ovat kaikkien tuntemat Marge ja Bart Simpson! :)

Castelo Branco

Marisa from Portugal has sent this card of hers homecity Castelo Branco. Castelo Branco located in Central Portugal and the population of city is about 55 000 inhabitants.

The Golden Lion Tamarins

This postcard of golden lion tamarins (leontopithecus rosalia) I got from Brazil at 17.3.2008. The Portuguese name of this monkey is mico-leão-dourado. This monkey is an endangered specie and it lives in rainforests in coastal side of Brazil. The wild population of specis is over 1000 and a captive population is about 500. Brasiliasta saapui 17.3.2009 tämä kultaleijonatamariini-kortti (leontopithecus rosalia). Lajin portugalilainen nimi on mico-leão-dourado. Tämä uhanalainen apinalaji elää Brasilian rannikkosademetsissä. Luonnossa niitä elää yli 1000 yksilöä ja vankeudessa viitisensataa. I'am a big fan of ad-cards. And this Heineken Beer ad-card is really a great addition to my collection! Heineken International is a Dutch brewing company. Heineken ranks as the 3rd largerst brewer in the world with an annual beer production of 139.2 million hectoliters. Thank you so much Rickster!

This amazing panda-postcard I got from KA from Hong Kong. She writes that the panda in the picture is lovely and fat :D

Tämän ihanan pandakortin sain Hong Kongista KA:lta. Hän kirjoittaakin, että kuvassa oleva jättiläispanda on ihana ja lihava :D 

This harmless and much loved animal is a symbol of China and ambassador for all the earth's endangered species for WWF http://www.wwf.org/ . Hong Kong has 2 pair of pandas, An An (male) and Jia Jia (female), and the newcomers are Le Le (male) and Ying Ying (female). The giant pandas are symbolize peace and goodwill.
