Bird, bird, bird, b-bird's the word

It's Spring and bird migration is currently in progress. Birding is one of my hobbies and it's really rewarding entertainment! I recommend it to everybody :)

Se olis kevät taas ja lintujen muuttokin käynnissä paraikaan. Lintujen bongailu on yksi harrastuksistani ja täytyy kyllä myöntää, että se on ihan äärimmäisen antoisa ajanviete! Kaikille voin suositella lämpimästi :)

Everybody knows this bird, it's White Stork (Ciconia Ciconia). It's the bird which brings babies :) I received the postcard from Elsje from the Netherlands. Here in Finland had been seen some of White Storks, in Helsinki and Siuntio. Thank you Elsje!

Kaikkihan tietävät tämän linnun, kattohaikara! Siis se lintu, joka tuo vauvoja :) Korttihan tuli Hollannista asti Elsjeltä, kiitoksia vaan tästä! Suomessakin on muutamia jo bongailtu mm. Helsingissä ja Siuntiossa.

Nelson, who has been described as looking like a cross between an alien and a roast chicken, was born last month at Bergzoo in Germany. 
He was the only one of three eggs laid by his mother to survive and hatch, but was promptly rejected by his parents.
As such, the youngster is now being cared for around the clock by staff and spent the first four weeks of his life in an incubator.
Keas are large parrots native to the alpine regions of New Zealand that are known for their intelligence and curiosity.
Adults are mostly olive-green with a brilliant orange flash under their wings."

Mount Shasta

This postcard is from family which lives in California. In the cover of card you can see Mount Shasta and lenticular cloud. Mount Shasta (or White Mountain) located in northern California and rises to 4322 metres high. 

Naturalist and author John Muir said of Mount Shasta:

"When I first caught sight of it over the braided folds of the Sacramento Valley, I was fifty miles away and afoot, alone and weary. Yet all my blood turned to wine, and I have not been weary since."

Scenic Utah

The salt lakes, the mormons, 2002 Winter Olympics, wheres Finland got 7 medals. Those are the things which come to mind at first when I think about Utah. In the stamps are Marge and Bart Simpsons whose everyone knows! :)

Suolajärvet, mormonit,  talviolympialaiset vuonna 2002, joista Suomikin sai mukaansa 7 mitalia. Nuo asiat tulevat ensimmäisenä mieleen, kun ajattelen Utahia. Postimerkeissä ovat kaikkien tuntemat Marge ja Bart Simpson! :)

This great B&W-card shows the Latvian Railway engine from 1933. I love the card but even more I love the stamp. It's very unique! I think that it's the European Pine Marten. What do you think?

"I may be paranoid, but not an android"

19th June 2010 was really my lucky day. Postman bringed to me a postcard from United States of America. The card is a great addition to my collection. I'am a huge Radiohead fan and that's why it was so nice to get a card which shows their third album OK Computer.

19. kesäkuuta vuonna 2010 oli todellakin onnenpäiväni. Postimies kiikutti kaukaa Jenkeistä kortin, joka oli aivan upea lisäys kokoelmiini! Olen suuri Radiohead-fani ja siksi juuri oli hienoa saada heidän kolmas albumista OK Computer postikortin muotona.

For those people who doesn't know the band: Radiohead are an English (alternative)rock band which are formed in 1985. The band consist of five genius. The front man (singer and guitarist) is Thom York. Radiohead has released eight studioalbums and the OK Computer (released in 1997) raised the band to in fame. The most popular songs are among other things: Creep, Karma Police & Paranoid Android. My title are quoted of Paranoid Android's chorus.

Niille, joille bändi on tuntematon: Radiohead on 1985 perustettu englantilainen vaihtoehtorock-yhtye, joka koostuu viidestä nerosta. Keulahahmona (laulaja-kitaristi) toimii Thom York. Radiohead on julkaissut kahdeksan studioalbumia, joista juuri OK Computer (julkaistu vuonna 1997) nosti yhtyeen maailmankuuluksi. Tunnetuimpia lauluja ovat mm. Creep, Karma Police & Paranoid Android. Otsikkoni on lainattu Paranoid Androidin kertosäkeestä.

Birdies!

 One of my hobbies are birdwatching (or twitching). Yesterday I found common treecreeper! :) This was my second time when I see this bird in nature. In my wishlist are "birds" and I have received praiseworthy many card of birds. This time I want to present few of them...

Yksi harrastuksistani on lintujen bongailu. Eilen löysin lähimetsästä puukiipijän! :) Tämä oli vasta toinen kerta, kun tapasin kyseisen linnun luonnossa. Toivelistallani lukee linnut ja olenkin saanut ihan kiitettävän paljon lintu-kortteja. Tällä kertaa esittelisin niistä muutamia...

Kristie from Singapore has sent January 2011 Barn Owl-postcard. Kristie has bought the card from Singapore Zoo. Barn Owl (tyto alba) are rare here in Finland: it has seen only seven time in Finland and last time was in 2006. Kristie thinks that the owl reminds her of Hedwig the Owl from Harry Potter :) There's very nice stamp too in the card, it shows Stork-billed Kingfisher

Kristie Singaporesta on lähettänyt tammikuussa 2011 tornipöllö-kortin, joka on peräisin Singaporen eläintarhasta. Tornipöllö (tyto alba) on meillä Suomessa harvinaista herkkua: viimeksi nähty vuonna 2006 ja yhteensä vain seitsemän (7) kertaa. Kristie kertoo kortissa, että kuvan pöllö muistuttaa häntä Harry Potterin Hedwigistä :) Kristie on liittänyt korttiin toisenkin linnun, nimittäin postimerkin muodossa komeilee jonkin sortin kuningaskalastaja.

Theresa from Michigan has sent a great postcard from American Bald Eagle. This card too are origin from Zoo, this time at Detroit Zoo. American Bald Eagle was an endangered species in  the 60's in many states of America. But nowadays the specie are least concern. This bird sumbolize for many people bravery and freedom, and at the same time: it symbolize the USA, too.

Theresa Michiganista on lähettänyt kortin mahtavasta valkopäämerikotkasta. Tämäkin kuva on peräisin eläintarhasta, tällä kertaa Detroitin eläintarhasta. Kyseinen lintu oli vielä 1960-luvulla luokiteltu useissa osavaltioissa erittäin uhanalaiseksi lajiksi, mutta nykypäivänä laji on elinvoimainen. Valkopäämerikotka on monille rohkeuden ja vapauden symboli, ja toisaalta kuvastaa myös itse Pohjois-Amerikan valtiota.

Even one postcard for this day! :) Deborah from Australia has sent this lovely Kookaburra-card at September 2011. The kookaburra is also called the Laughing Jackass because of its loud laughing call.

Vielä yksi lintu-postikortti tälle päivälle :) Deborah Australiasta lähetti tämän vuoden syyskuussa kortin aivan ihanista kookaburrista! Suomeksi kookaburra on isonauraja (Dacelo novaeguineae). Jotkut kutsuvat näitä lintuja myös "Laughing Jackass", naurava pölvästi, ison äänensä vuoksi tietenkin...

B&W

I have decided that I write also in english. In that way I can share more the joy of postcards! :) My apologize that my english are not the best one but hope you can understand even somerthing. At least the pictures of cards are nice :D 

Aika rientää näin syksyisin hieman turhankin joutuin. Onneksi nyt tiistai-iltana on jälleen aikaa kertoa saamistani postikorteista :) Tällä kertaa valitsin aiheeksi mustavalko-kortit.

It's autumn again, and time is running! This time I choose Black&White-cards. I think that B&W-card have more feeling than colourcards. Especially I like those which are autentic old ones! This card are sent by Lisa, Cleveland, Ohio. The card shows young Japanese American internees dance at an assembly center , Fresno, CA. I can admit that I didn't know what "internee" was so I check it at wikipedia.. :P

Mustavalkokuvissa on usein enemmän tunnelmaa kuin värillisissä. Erityisesti niissä, jotka ovat oikeasti vanhoja. Ohiolainen Lisa (tarkemmin sanottuna Clevelandista) lähetti elokussa 2010 postikortin, joka on kuvattu vuonna 1942 Fresnossa, Kaliforniassa. Kuvassa tanssivat nuoret japanilaiset internoidut kokoontumiskeskuksessa (joo en tienny minäkää ensin, että mitä internoitu tarkoittaa, mutta wikipedia opettaa: http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internointi).

This card fits so great for these rainy autumnevenings. It's very romantic, I think :) The card are from Shanghai, China and has travelled 7380 kilometres = 4586 miles! I really do think that autumn are the best season...

Näihin sateisiin syysiltoihin sopii ihanasti romanttinen B&W-kortti. Kortti on peräisin Shanghaista Kiinanmaalta ja on matkannut yhteensä 7380 km. Syksy on kyllä ehdottomasti lempparivuodenaikani... Mutta itse korttiin:

Kaipuu etelään - Missing the Sun

Here in Finland are now storming so I have to admit that I miss the South. It would be very nice to travel to Croatia. Yep, that will be next vacation target. I have received one postcard from Croatia but that wasn't landscape themed. Of course many other places are interested too!

Näin syysmyrskyjen keskellä hinku ulkomaille kasvaa kasvamistaan. Oma mielenkiintoni olisi lähteä Kroatiaan. Sieltä on tullut yksi postikortti, mutta se ei ollut maisema-aiheinen. Tottakai monet muutkin paikat kiinnostaisivat!

Example Portugal wouldn't be bad target at all. This card are from city named Sines. It arrived 20th October 2009. The sender of card mentioned that the best know citizen of Sines are Vasco da Gama.

Esimerkiksi Portugali ei olisi ollenkaan paha vaihtoehto. Sinesin kaupungista tuli kortti 20. lokakuuta 2009. Kortin lähettäjäkin mainitsee, että Sinesin tunnetuin asukas oli löytöretkeilijä Vasco da Gama.

Madeira belong to Portugal too, and I got card from there at 24th February 2011. You can see the Pico do Arieiro which is the highest point in the island. I googled the point and I find online-magazine which is in finnish!

Madeirakin kuuluu Portugalille ja sieltä tuli kortti 24. helmikuuta 2011. Kortissa komeilee Pico do Arieiro, saaren kolmanneksi korkein huippu. Kun googletin Pico do Arieiron, löysin suomenkielisen Madeiran online-lehden. http://www.madeira-live.com/fi/pico-arieiro.html

Then, to other continent. Last day of August in this year I got a card from Thailand. Amp sent for me a card from Krabi which located 700km away from Bangkok. The card has really nice stamps, I have to take a pic of those some day!

Sitten toiseen maanosaan, Aasiaan. Viimeinen päivä elokuuta tänä vuonna tuli kortti Thaimaasta. Amp lähetti kortin Krabilta, joka sijaitsee noin 700km Bangkokista. Kortissa oli kauniit merkit, täytynee ottaa niistä kuva joku päivä!

Again, other side of the Earth! I have received so many cards from United States. 14.10.2010 I got a card from Tamara, Portland, Oregon. Very classy, I can say! You can see the city but also the Mt. Hood. Tamara tells that there's only two hours driving distance to Pacific Ocean and only hour driving distance to Mt. Hood.

Ja taas ihan toiselle puolelle maapalloa! Jenkeistä on tosiaan tullut uskomattoman paljon kortteja. 14.10.2010 Tamara on lähettänyt Portlandista, Oregonin osavaltiosta, tyylikkään kortin. Kortissa näkyy itse kaupunki ja taustalla Mt. Hood. Tamara kertoo, että kaupungista on vain kahden tunnin ajomatka Tyynellemerelle ja tunti menee Mt.Hoodille.

Rapakon takaa

Jenkit ovat Postcrossingin aktiivisimpia postikorttien lähettäjiä ja itsekin olen saanut sieltä jo 59 postikorttia. Tässä niistä muutama.

Etelä-Carolina on USA:n osavaltio itärannikolla. Tämän osavaltion lempinimi on "Palmetto State". Kortissa lukee myös muutama osavaltion motto ja ne ovat: "Prepared in Mind & Resources" sekä "While I Breathe, I Hope". Kortin lähettäjä Melcher asuu Etelä-Carolinan pääkaupungissa Columbiassa. Tällä kortilla kesti matkustaa 11 vuorokautta!

24.toukokuuta 2010 Bobby on lähetettänyt postikortin Kentuckysta. Love:n V:ssä näkyy Kentucky Derby. Laukkakilpailu järjestetään toukokuun ensimmäisenä lauantaina. http://www.kentuckyderby.com/

Yhdysvaltain toiseksi suurimman osavaltion Teksasin maskotti on karjarotu longhorn. Texas longhorn on vanha Villin Lännen vertauskuva, joka on tunnettu pitkistä sarvistaan, kuten nimikin sanoo. Marianne, kortin lähettäjä, asuu Austinissa.

Lopuksi vielä ihana kaupunkimaisemakortti New Mexicosta. Kortin lähettäjä, Dustin, on asunut Albuquerquessa (ompa vaikea kirjoittaa!) parisen vuotta ja on ihan rakastanut kaupunkiin. Kaupungin asukkaat ovat kuulemma erittäin ystävällisiä ja ilmasto on täydellinen esimerkiksi retkeilyyn ja pyöräilyyn.

I admit, I'am one of those 246 655 people in the world and one of the 12 420 finnish people. I spent my money to cardboards and little stamps. I rejoice when my mail slot slams! So, I'am rushed to postcrossing. My hobby started over three years ago,more closely 1112 days ago.

Myönnetään, olen yksi niistä 246 655:stä ihmisestä maailmasta ja 12 420:stä suomalaisesta. Tuhlaan rahojani pahviin ja pieniin paperisiin merkkeihin. Riemuitsen postiluukun kolahtamisesta! Olen siis hurahtanut postcrossailuun. Harrastukseni alkoi yli kolme vuotta sitten, tarkemmin sanottuna 1112 vuorokautta.

First time when I ever heard of this thing was on the local newspaper. It was Metro or Satanen, I can't remember ehich of those it was. I have always been friend of snailmail so zeal was immediately. In this blog I introduce my receuved postcards, and sometimes the stamps too. I have to say that this hobby are just perfect to me because I can do this whenever I can't. I'am that kind of person that I get excited very quickly with new things but sometimes the exciting abate..It might be times when I do business all the time with Post. And it can be times when I donät receive nothing else than bills.

Ensimmäisen kerran luin tästä touhusta joko Metrosta tai Satasesta. En nyt ole ihan varma kumpi se noista oli, joku ilmaisjakelulehti kumminkin. Olen aina ollut etanapostin ystävä, joten innostus syttyi heti. Esittelen tällä blogilla saamiani kortteja, joskus merkkejäkin. Täytyy sanoa, että tämä harrastus sopii minulle paremmin kuin hyvin, koska tätä pystyy harrastamaan silloin kuin itse haluaa. Taipumuksiini kuuluu herkästi innostuminen uuteen juttuun. Melko usein innostus kuitenkin laskee kuin lehmän häntä. Välillä on kausia kun asioin jatkuvasti Postissa, toisinaan on niin hiljaista, ettei postiluukusta ei kolahda muuta kuin laskuja.

I'am student so I have to think money also. It's quite expensive because here in Finland stamps costs 75cents and the card is about 1 euro. I have spent about 550 euros of postcrossing so far.

Ja näin opiskelijana vielä hyvistä puolista: silloin kun rahat riittävät. Ihan totta, pidemmän päälle kun alkaa laskemaan, niin euron kortti ja tällä hetkellä 75 sentin postimerkki tulevat kalliiksi! Jos tuolla logiikalla laskee, niin tähän mennessä olen kuluttanut postcrossailuun noin 550 euroa. No joo nyt vähän liiottelin ( anteeksi :[ ). Onneksi on olemassa mm. Kirjatori mistä saa ostettua 10kpl kortteja hintaan 2 euroa. Lisäksi aina löytyy ilmaiskortteja. Kaikki eivät vain niitä halua. Itse olen musta lammas, eli tänne vaan adeja!

Little things make me happy. Lovely card makes me smile even if has been bad day. It makes me happy too when I have succesfully picked a right card from some other postcrosser.

Pienestä sitä tulee kyllä iloiseksi. Ihana kortti saa hymyn huulille huononkin päivän jälkeen. Iloa tuottaa myös jonkun randomtyypin saaminen onnelliseksi, kun on osannut valita juuri oikean kortin hänelle.

Okey, but here's first card: The card has arrived 8th August 2011 and it has travelled 13 days and nights. Sender are tattooist and comes from Denver, Colorado. The card is very unique and a joy to behold. In my wishlist are among other things dogs and colourful cards. Thank you Dana when you took my wishes into account!

Nyt itse asiaan: alla oleva kortti on saapunut 8.elokuuta 2011 taivallettuaan 13 päivää ja yötä. Lähettäjä on tatuoijatar Denveristä, Coloradosta. Kortti on hyvin uniikki ja todellinen ilo silmälle.  Toivelistallani lukee mm. koirat ja värikkäät kortit. Eli kiitoksia paljon Danalle, kun otit toiveeni huomioon!
